Experience a real view of Punta Gorda by meeting the local Garifuna people. Garifunas are the descendants of an Afro-indigenous population from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent; Exiled to the Honduran coast in the eighteenth century. The Garifunas very much keep their culture alive through the practice of drum and dance ceremonies. Sit back and and learn about their historical Ruth as you explore the little village of Punta Gorda and the meaning and importance of these traditions and what they mean to the Garifunas today.

You'll also see how they prepare the crispy typical yucca bread, a treasured tradition, called "Kazabe." After making the Kazabe, you'll have an opportunity to try it for yourself quickly realizing why the Garifunas hold it in such high regard. To close out your experience, you will have an opportunity to tour the village and see the traditional huts built from natural leaves, canes, bamboo, and mud.

Upon leaving the Garifunas, you will have an opportunity to enjoy the views from Oak Ridge, on a mangrove tour by boat once inhabited by pirates before stopping at the beach.

The cost of the tour includes transportation to and from the cruise port, an English-speaking guided city tour, a visit to the Garifunas, a mangrove tour by boat, and a beach day.
